5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality espresso!, April 21, 2009

In every sense, this is a fine quality espresso. I was surprised that Nestle could prepackage espresso in a capsule yet retain all of the desirable characteristics of a good espresso. The espresso is strong yet smooth, sweet without bitterness, and had nice thick crema. I haven't enjoyed an espresso this good in a long time, but this was a pleasure to sip.

I've been a fan of Green Mountain Coffee Extra Bold Espresso Blend, but I have to admit that the Dolce Gusto Espresso wins this battle.

This would also make a nice base for homemade coffee beverages. At 44 cents per serving, this is not only inexpensive but makes a nice afternoon pick-me-up drink.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent non-bitter espresso, October 4, 2010

As with all the Dolce Gusto capsules, these are very fine quality. They brew up nicely with a wonderful crema layer. Even though it's espresso, it's actually the first non-bitter espresso I've ever tasted! It's very bold but not like drinking coffee grounds, as some can be. I'd highly recommend this product, especially for a nice after-dinner coffee. This will give your stove-top pressure brewer a run for it's money. Won't disappoint.

Customer Video Review Length:: 0:47 Mins

Maybe living in Seattle has made me a bit of a coffee snob, but this espresso does not really impress!

See video for demonstration.

It extremely easy to pull the shots from the Dolce Gusto machine and it leaves a nice crema layer at the top. The shot is not very strong, but definitely not weak or watery (like most the other Dolce Gusto pods which I reviewed). I still prefer my Lello 1375 Ariete Cafe Prestige which gives me the flexibility of using whichever beans I prefer. One of my favorites (besides some local roasters) is Lavazza Super Crema which is a much bolder and full-bodied coffee.
